It was maybe ten years ago now. It was summertime, and I was in my kitchen at the sink looking out the window at the beauty out back. I suddenly realized I had been in a deep, still, joyous place for most of the day and thought, I should give thanks.
That thought and the subsequent movement of my mind to express gratitude pulled me outside the inner sanctum. It was that quick, and I lost a few degrees of that deep stillness.
This brought an epiphany. The space of peace and joy is all. Everything else like expressing gratitude is simply a tool to bring us there, to bring us back home.
I have lots of tools to bring me there, to bring me home. For these I give thanks. To name a few, there are family, friends, the beauty of nature, walks outside, the sun on my face, my home, my kitties, the rain on the roof, a good book or movie, a song.
And I give thanks for you.
May you celebrate your many pathways to peace and joy.
Happy Thanksgiving.
