True Gifts

The Something of No-Thing~~~

Today I remembered a folktale from my youth about a happy man and his shirt. In the story a king sent his men to find a happy man and bring him his shirt so the king could be happy too.

When the king’s men finally find a happy man, they learn that he has no shirt.

This holiday season this story brings to mind all of the intangibles to be grateful for.

   For family.

   For friendship.

   For kindness.

   For helpfulness.

   For silliness and laughter.

For shared struggles and shared successes.

   For comfort and for convenience.

   For wonder and mystery.

   For the beauty of nature.

   For love and for joy.

   For…you fill in the blank.

While we can give thanks for things too, the no-thing that transcends all things is everything.

Happy Holidays.
